Are you walking on Sunshine?
Or is the rain relentless?
Art Therapy is a form of counseling in which people use various art materials to create paintings, drawings, images or sculptures.
Talking and processing emotions is a vital part of healing. Occasionally, one can not find the right words to express what they are feeling or what they experienced. This is when art enters into the counseling session: Art has a magical way of digging deeper into our unconscious thoughts. During traumatic events, intense emotions create chemicals that put our body in survival mode. Creating art activates parts of the brain that are shut down during trauma. New neurotransmitters are created that add positive and safe feelings to the traumatic memory and this allows our brain to create a new response to the memory. Thus panic responses and pain slowly ease with the new associations created in the brain.
““Art is the window to the soul””
Making art allows individuals to express feelings, explore obstacles, process traumatic experiences, or to improve personal problems, relationships, or spiritual issues.
