ART THERAPY WITH CHILDREN

WHEN IT IS HARD TO FIND THE WORDS... ART IS A LANGUAGE WE CAN ALL UNDERSTAND.

Art Therapy with Children

  • With art, children can communicate in ways that bypass verbal logic.
  • Creating art can be self-soothing, calming, and cathartic.
  • While creating art, children make their own choices and are in control- this encourages the formation of a sense of self.

It is important that children find the therapy environment to feel safe and fun.  It should be a place that they look forward to visiting, instead of something they dread or fear.  Children are encouraged to call their counselor "Strawberry Aubrie" instead of Ms.Aubrie.  This association is easy to remember and suggests that Aubrie is a sweet and gentle spirit.
